It's ALL about me!

May. 1st, 2010 12:20 pm Gratuitous and unapologetic

I only seem to come here when I've got something to sell...

It's a giveaway bonanza!

Hot on the heels of 'free badges' comes competition time!

As you may (or may not) be aware, I have been keeping my dream alive* by composing short snippets of dialogue for my Blood Lust characters and offering them for free download at Lulu.com.

This is a big one.

Blood Lust: Sound Bites #7 - Boys, Butterflies and Blood listens in on a typical all-female conversation.

I have interwoven many references to the above topics and offer a challenge: spot how many of each I have included, post an answer here (or over at my facebook page and you could win a prize!

How can you possibly resist?^

*Or perhaps merely keeping it on a ventilator.
^Don't answer that.

1 Groovy- Hail To The King, Baby!

Mar. 7th, 2010 09:16 pm S'up LJers?

Was an 'interesting' week, last week, what with OfStEd's announcement of their descendency upon our school and the ensuing panic, late nights, desperate attempts to do everything by 'the book', and then insane tenterhooks as each lesson is delivered with the marked precision of Hamlet's soliloquy and the bitter-sweet anti-climax of no-show after no-show.

Am now left in some bizarre Limbo-esque state of thankful for not being judged yet alienated for not having contributed in some way to the department's results. Glad that I actually cared enough about the dept to only have 8 hours of restless sleep in 48 but thoroughly pee-o'ed for the wasted effort.

Anyhoo, on a brighter note, it has offered me with a most delicious premise for another sound bite which will have to get finished quickly while I am in the caustic mood. Meanwhile, #3 is available for free download at http://stores.lulu.com/zorga. Not such a deliberately funny one, but more ominous of things to come.

At this rate, another 3 years before it makes any sense.

Ho-hum. Still keeping the dream alive (on some sort of respirator).

Hail To The King, Baby!

Jan. 31st, 2010 09:04 pm Self motivation exercise

I have spawned an idea to keep my brain from seizing. Partly brought on from having to read 30 drafts of Year 10 'original' writing this weekend.

I am indulging in publishing snippets of original dialogue from my Blood Lust characters under the series title of Blood Lust: Sound Bites.

The idea is to keep me interested while I wade through the drudgy bit of the next novel.

Hopefully I shall be posting a monthly article for free download over at http://stores.lulu.com/zorga (scroll to bottom of page).

The first one is there now, so feel free to take a peak and let me know what you think.

Hail To The King, Baby!

Nov. 30th, 2009 08:23 pm Self-important rantage!

Okay, ego aside (or rather, ego predominantly center stage), I'm a bit pee-oed.

In 1993 I started writing a darkly humorous book about vampires called Blood Lust being vanquished by high caliber weapons and in 1996, Tarantino released from Dusk Till Dawn.

In 2002 I finished writing the sequel The Carrion, again darkly humorous but about zombies this time. In 2004, Simon Pegg released Shaun of the Dead.

In 2007 I published the third installment, Revelations, which is all about Heaven and Hell battling for dominance over the Earth and my heroes fighting against nigh-on indestructible angels. This weekend, I see a trailer for Legion.

When is Hollywood going to learn that it is about 5 years behind me?

Now awaiting Aftermath to get ripped off.

But enough about me, how's everyone doing?

Hail To The King, Baby!

Sep. 9th, 2009 07:30 pm Because YOU* demanded it!

Aftermath is finally available through Amazons. Although I'm not sure of all of them, I am at least sure of amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com (although not sure where they got the 'Mandarin version' version from!!!) and Amazon.co.jp.

Of course, it has also, always been available globally through Lulu.com

*using the singular 2nd person pronoun to sound like the plural and trick everyone into thinking it is high demand!

Jul. 20th, 2009 09:18 pm If you have anything nice to say ...

... say it about me!

Yay! Another review for Aftermath went up on SFCrowsnest.com. These places really should start letting other people read my books though. People might think they are related to me or something.

http://www.sfcrowsnest.com/articles/books/2009/Blood-Lust-4-Aftermath-by-Rhys-A-Wilcox-14053.php - takes you to the source.

This cut contains the reviewCollapse )

And nary a mention about the typo on page 92! Sweet!

Now, I wish Lulu would get a frickin' move on with the ISBN!

Hail To The King, Baby!

Jul. 12th, 2009 06:38 pm Zombie fest

Purely by chance (sort of), this last fortnight has seen my household INVADED BY ZOMBIES!!!!

For a while a have been collecting the hard back editions of Marvel Zombies as well as the super sweet 7" figures of Colonel America and Spider-man and finally got my wanton little hand on the third piece, zombie Hulk.

For fathers day came House of the Dead 2 & 3, which I haven't had the time to honour yet. As well as a personal purchase of Deadrising Both for the Wii.

Whilst looking for a reward for The Boy's awesome school report, I just HAD to buy these cute mo-fos...

For some strange reason, The Boy had a bad nightmare the other night. Yup, about zombies. A chip of the old block, that one.

*sniff* Does my old heart proud it does *sniff*

Jun. 8th, 2009 09:04 pm Ickle freebies

Greetings lj-ers.

I'm sure I've got lots to post but can't really think of anything THAT interesting. Aside from I am about 4 weeks away from becoming a 'proper' teacher. That's some scary shit right there.

Anyway, got bored a while back and got some Blood Lust badges made and am now in the process of giving them away to friend, fans, family and any other social groups beginning with 'f'.

If you would like three 2.5cm metal pin badges with my series' immortal, self-derisory straplines^ emblazened* across them; drop me a note!

^Blood Lust: Puts the 'inane' back into 'canine'.
Blood Lust 2: Puts the 'mediocre' back into 'zombie cadaver'.
Blood Lust 3: Puts the 'God damn!' back into 'Armageddon'.
*as emblazened as you can get across 2.5cm.

4 Groovys- Hail To The King, Baby!

Apr. 12th, 2009 11:29 am Spiritual boost!

Been absent for a while, mainly because there has been very little to say.

Teaching continues. No child has died under my care and, apparently, that is the benchmark for a 'bad day'. Anything else just isn't that bad.

This Easter is supposed to be a catch up on many things including writing but, as usual, inspiration slips through my fingers every time I pick up the PS2 control.

HOWEVER! This little gem has just cropped up and I had to share. From Booklore.co.uk, a most welcome ego boost of a review.

Copied under cutCollapse )

Currently. Aftermath is only available through Lulu.com but I am in the process of changing all that.
